A Dog’s Breakfast

I’m afraid this isn’t going to be much of a personal blog today, but I just have to rave about this movie I watched the other night. It’s called A Dog’s Breakfast, and it is the brainchild of actor David Hewlett of Stargate Atlantis. He wrote, directed and starred in this little indie film, and he managed to get his friends from the set and his own sister to star in it for free! It’s an absolutely hilarious movie; a comedy (obviously) but also kind of morbid.

Here’s the blurb on the back of the DVD case:
“When Marilyn (Kate Hewlett), a successful make-up artist for a hit TV series, brings home the show’s star Ryan (Paul McGillion), to announce their engagement, it catapults her already obsessive brother Patrick (David Hewlett) over the edge. And when Patrick learns that Ryan is out to murder his sister, he plots to give the actor the axe – or something sharper. But Patrick bungles the perfect crime, things spin out of control, and soon, the family’s sanity has gone to the dogs.”

Avoiding UFOs.

My knitting has totally stalled. It’s due to a combination of school, work and my own darn fault. I screwed up, made an ugly mistake and now I’m avoiding having to tink two rows in order to fix it. Hence, the stalled knitting. The project that’s currently become a road block? Socks. Plain, run of the mill, socks.

I picked up the stitches along the side of the heel flap incorrectly, creating an ugly mess that needs to be fixed. How dumb am I? This isn’t my first pair of socks! Not to mention, I knit two rows before I figured out what was wrong. I’ve considered just ignoring it and plowing on, but those who know me, know it’ll drive me nuts every time I look at it. So, it needs to be fixed. Later. After homework. Maybe.

The big tour.

Today we had a tour of the hospital. Wow, I never realized how big it is. We got to see some units not open to the public, which was really interesting. Can you believe that one of the most interesting things was a bedpan machine? The bedpans in ICU are made of a paper mache type material and this machine just macerates the whole thing, no emptying or cleaning required. That was cool. Yeah, I’m weird. We also had a tour of the actual unit we will be working on; they call it complex care. Essentially, it is people who are too sick to be in a longterm care facility, although the goal is to get them well enough to be in one, or go home. We’re going to get to deal with G-feeds and the like, which will be a welcome change. No, I’m not being morbid; but my previous clinical placement dealt with more stable clients, so I could use the experience. My clinical teacher also mentioned possible OR time, which is so fantastic. I’m not getting my hopes up; she just said she would look into it.
